Dubai Airport Operations to Shift to Al Maktoum Airport in 10 Years

There is a proposal to transfer all Dubai Airport operations to Dubai’s Al Maktoum Airport within the next 10 years. The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, posted the plan for the relocation of Dubai Airport on social media.

Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai has approved the design of its new passenger terminals, with a construction cost of 128 billion dirhams. Al-Maktoum Airport will handle 26 million passengers annually, with flight operations possible on five runways. The future airport will be able to serve 400 aircraft simultaneously, and it will use new aviation technologies for the first time in the aviation sector.

Around the Al Maktoum Airport in Dubai, the new city ‘Dubai South’ will provide housing facilities for 1 million people. Dubai’s Al Maktoum Airport has been hosting the Dubai Airshow for the past 10 years. Al Maktoum International Airport started operating with cargo flights in 2010, and it currently operates a small number of passenger flights. Al Maktoum Airport in Dubai is located 60 km away from the existing Dubai Airport.
